COMPOST WITH US - Community Composting Program

Help us create nutrient rich soil

One of the tasks at Dunbar Garden that we would love help with from volunteers is helping with our composting program. It is not the most glorious gig, but you can rest better knowing you have helped us create nutrient rich soil for use in our garden. We spend a portion of each week focusing on maintaining our compost area. We clean the large black drop off buckets, we turn the compost, and if the compost is done "cooking" we crank up the compost rocket!

Pro tip: When volunteering to help with stinky compost you will secretly be LEARNING a new skill that will help you in your gardening success and in your quest to help save the world one full compost bucket at a time.

COMPOST WITH US

Do you want to compost but don’t have the proper location, time or ability to do so? We would love to invite you to participate in our composting program. This is a free program for residential compost, but we greatly appreciate any donations you can make. All donations go to chicken food, garden equipment maintenance and staff development.

Reduce, reuse, recycle! Find a lidded bucket for your compostables. Coffee containers, ice cream buckets and other reused buckets work great for this. You can keep it on the countertop, in the fridge, or even in the freezer to cut down on any smells that might be brewing until drop off day.

Drop off is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week drop. The large black drop off buckets are located on the west side of the garden outside the back gate. Please be mindful of bus pickup and drop off times.
