Community Composting Program
Help us create nutrient rich soil
At Dunbar Garden, one of the most impactful ways volunteers can lend a hand is through our composting program. It may not be the most glamorous task, but it’s incredibly rewarding! You’ll head home knowing you’ve played a part in creating rich, healthy soil that helps our garden and community thrive.
Each week, we dedicate time to caring for our compost system: cleaning the large drop-off buckets, turning the piles and firing up the compost rocket when the compost is fully “cooked”.
Volunteering with compost might be a little messy, but you’ll pick up valuable knowledge to boost your own gardening skills while making the world a little greener, one full bucket at a time.
COMPOST WITH US
Do you want to compost but don’t have the proper location, time or ability to do so? We invite you to participate in our composting program. This is a free program for residential compost, but we greatly appreciate any donations you can make. All donations go to chicken food, garden equipment maintenance and staff development.
Reduce, reuse, recycle! Find a lidded bucket for your compostables. Coffee containers, ice cream buckets and other reused buckets work great for this. You can keep it on the countertop, in the fridge, or even in the freezer to cut down on any smells that might be brewing until drop off day.
Drop off is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The large black drop off buckets are located on the west side of the garden outside the back gate. Please be mindful of bus pick up and drop off times.
