DUNBAR GARDEN MISSION
Our mission at Dunbar Garden, 501(c)3, is to provide educational resources and interactive opportunities for youth, families, and the community through sustainable urban agriculture. Since 1992, we have led the effort to increase access to quality local foods and support the development of urban teaching gardens within our community.
INTRODUCTION
Dunbar Garden is located in the Paul Laurence Dunbar neighborhood of Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas. We are a three acre urban garden surrounded by Gibbs Elementary, Dunbar Middle School, Dunbar Community Center and Sue Cowan Williams Public Library. Dunbar Garden is the oldest urban garden with a focus on education in the state of Arkansas.
WHAT WE DO
Produce food. We cultivate three acres of mixed vegetable, fruit and flower crops using sustainable agricultural practices. We have a fully functioning greenhouse and chicken coop.
Connect children and adults to nature. Our environmental and nutritional education programs foster comfort in the outdoors and provide students and adults with opportunities to learn about the links between agriculture, conservation, and the environment.
“This whole place is our classroom. Everyone is welcome here.”
